Early Period

  • October 24th, 1926: The beginning of Canisius College with Father Kurris, SJ as the first Board Director
  • June 1st, 1927: Class 1 AMS (Algemenee Middlebare School) started for the first time.
  • July 1st, 1929: Dormitory Building, Hall and Tennis Court completed.
  • October 26th, 1931: Father Van Hoof, SJ was appointed as the first rector.

The Age of Development

  • 1931: The establishment of our Vision and Mission as basic education. The birth of a lot of students’ activities such as Orchestra, Choir, Magazine (Pemancar CC), and Theatre.
  • The establishment of the new HBS building was suspended due to World War II.
  • January 1st, 1946: Canisius College opened again after long a vacuum period due to World War II.
  • 1948: The completion of the new HBS building by Father Bastian, SJ
  • 1949: Indonesia’s national anthem ‘Indonesia Raya’ was sung at Canisius College for the first time due to the Victory of Indonesia over the Netherlands.
  • 1952: The celebration of Canisius College’s silver year (25th birthday) by Ornamental Bike Parade

Transition Period

  • 1952: HS & SHS replaced JBS, HBS, and AMS.
  • 1952 – 1967: The formation of PPSK (Catholic School’s Students Union) as the embryo of Student Council
  • 1962 Canisius College was entrusted to open trials of class A and C. The formation of Canisius College’s Boys Scout SHS programs were divided into 4: Culture & Heritage, Social Science, Exact Science, and Natural Science. The procurement of PORASKA (Pertandingan Antar Sekolah Katolik), in collaboration with St. Ursula & St. Theresia for the purpose of strengthening a relationship among the schools.
  • 1966: PPSK CC helped eradicate PKI by guarding School Grounds.
  • 1967: The procurement of Night Arts Choir (with St. Ursula and St. Theresia). Canisius JHS & SHS achieved the passing rate of 90% – 100% in the National Final Examination.

Independent Era

  • 1967: The management of JHS & SHS was divided. Father Sewaka, SJ took over the JHS while Father Jeuken, SJ was still in charge of SHS. Student’s Dorm was deactivated, replaced to classrooms.
  • 1968: SHS’s programs were divided into 3: culture & literature, social-economics, and exact and natural sciences. The procurement of Combined Exam with St. Ursula, Pangudi Luhur, Budi Mulia, etc
  • 1974: The application of Credit Point system (in collaboration with St. Ursula & St. Theresia)
  • 1977: The celebration of Canisius College’s golden year (50th birthday) by Motorbike Rally and Bazaar. The construction of new 2-storey building, with the assistance of the Netherlands government

Leading up Greatness Period

  • 1982: Canisius SHS became the sample of National Examination. Fr. Aziz Mardopo, SJ and Fr. Sandyawan Sumardi, SJ initiatively held the formation of Craddha. The formation of Canipress Jambore was held for the first time.
  • 1987: Canipress became the champion of national magazine competition. Class Guardian System was applied for the first time.
  • 1991: The construction of new 4-storey building
  • 1995 – 1997: Student Council was deactivated due to an internal conflict.
  • 1997: The formation of SOCIUS
  • 1998: Due to the collapse of the New Order regime, the students who worked on exams were forced to stay because the atmosphere was not safe.
  • 1999: The renovation of CC’s Chapel and tribune expansion
  • 2000: Enacting a new rule: “Caught cheating will be issued.”

Beginning of Greatness Period

  • 2000: Fanfare was renamed CWE. CC Cup was renamed Central Cup (with St. Ursula & St. Theresia).
  • 2001: Central Cup was renamed Cardinal Cup
  • 2002: Back to CC Cup, the celebration of Canisius College’s 75th birthday with Fun Work, Canisius Gold Tournament, Akbar Reunion, and the publication of Alumni Directory Book. Canisius SHS achieved a lot of glory in the field of arts and sports. We won various competitions in different aspects.
  • 2003: The 1st Canisius Art Blast: West Side Story The formation of CEF, CRC, and KISS CC
  • 2004: The 2nd Canisius Art Blast: Jesus Christ Superstar (with St. Ursula) CWE was invited to play at Istana Negara in Indonesia’s Independence Day Commemoration.
  • 2005: The formation of Canibreak and Canisius Multimedia

Starting Social Movement

  • March 15th, 2010: A friendly visit from Loyola College, Semarang
  • April 24th, 2010: The 4th Canisius Art Blast: Oliver! (In collaboration with St. Theresia tourism high school & Sang Timur), social activity for the progression of Le Cocq D’Armandville College, Papua. A Solidarity Concert and Merchandise Sale (At Casanova) was held.
  • 2010 – 2011: several successions for the chair of the Moderator and Principal of JHS-SHS, and the Rector of CC
  • October 17th – 20th, 2011: Temu Kolese was held, where 8 Colleges in Indonesia gathered in Mertoyudan Seminary. “Duc in Altum” was the theme of TEKOL and it emphasized 3Cs, namely Competence, Conscience, and Compassion.
  • October 23th, 2011: 30 years of Canilens. “Contrasts in Life” exhibition was held as a charity for Le Cocq College and Vincentius Girls Orphanage.
  • 2012: CC CUP (SHS), POR CC (JHS), CTS (JHS). “Conscientia Extravaganza” drama at Jakarta Theater opened the 85th Canisius College Anniversary events.
  • 2013: Kanisius Peduli Monas & Simfoni untuk Negeri were held as the finale of 85th Canisius College events.
  • 2014: Canisius Art Blast was held after 3 years of vacuum. The performance of drama entitled “Newsies” which was adapted from Disney drama, in collaboration with SMIP Santa Theresia, SMA Santa Ursula, and Kolese Gonzaga.
